Todd is an Institutional Investor Executive with a strong track record of success across multiple industries, including a deep focus within Technology, Media, Telecom, Entertainment and Sports verticals. His expertise spans both the private and public markets, including debt and equity across every business stage, from start-ups / private pre-IPO to small, mid and large cap public companies.
Prior to starting Sumac Drive Capital, Todd teamed up with former Goldman Sachs President and current IBM Vice Chairman, Gary Cohn, and Blue Harbour Group’s Founder and CEO, Cliff Robbins, to raise and manage an $828M SPAC (NYSE: CRHC). As the day-to-day lead Executive, Todd ran deal sourcing, target due diligence, and deal negotiation efforts, ultimately leading to an announced $9B merger with Allwyn Entertainment, a multinational lottery, sports betting, and i-gaming company.
Previous to Cohn Robbins, Todd spent ten years at Blue Harbour Group, a $3B hedge fund where he accounted for over one-third of cumulative firm returns over his tenure while employing Blue Harbour’s unique “private equity in the public markets” investing strategy.
Prior to Blue Harbour Group, Todd was at Principled Capital Management, a $1.5B hedge fund, where he solely managed a $165M long / short equity portfolio from 2007-2009, realizing a 23% gross return, compared to the S&P 500’s (-22%) performance over the same period.
Todd began his investing career at a growth equity firm called Dolphin Equity Partners. At Dolphin, Todd invested in 8 companies, including leading Dolphin’s investment in Gomez, Inc. and serving as Gomez’s Lead Board Director from 2001-2005. Gomez was ultimately sold to Compuware for $295M, enabling Dolphin to realize an 8.5x multiple on invested capital.
Todd graduated from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan and currently resides in Darien, CT with his wife and two sons. He is a Member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer for the ALS Association of Connecticut and is also extensively involved with New Covenant Center, a food pantry and soup kitchen in Stamford, CT. An avid sports fan, Todd coaches youth basketball in Connecticut and fanatically follows his University of Michigan Wolverines and Detroit professional sports teams.
